Does anyone have good examples of farmer communication efforts in the field? What works best with farmers in your country and/or community? What are the different ways we can communicate with farmers about IPM and FAW control (and on other plant pests and diseases)?

In Indonesia, I find that taking to effort to engage with farmers at a personal levels is very helpful. These effort may include regular visits or simply drinking tea together. Farmers that believe and know us seem to be more open to new information and may even provide great insights.
This is very true. Taking the time to understand different perspectives and develop a relationship builds trust and helps to develop understanding and activities that make sense for farmers and which are, therefore, more likely to be implemented over the long term. Dr Y Andi Trisyono had a good example of this in Part 1 of the Workshop on Farmer Communication
Communication of IPM information needs to be done overtime to build up that relationship with Growers. In most cases for us in the South Pacific we are not in constant contact with growers. Therefore going out in the filed with information that is new to growers is always a challenge. A group that regularly works on ground to carry out the IPM method is important. They can disseminate the ecological knowledge to growers at the same time show how each practice can provide benefit in a real production system
What we found the most effective communication with farmers is by sharing experiences of successful farmers in applying new technologies to target farmers.
Thank you for let me attending Effective Farmer Communication for IPM.
It such a comprehensive communication and change my perspective to be more positive in how to manage IPM
Hello everyone
Myself Dilawar Abbas , Student of Agriculture Entomology from University of Agriculture Faisalabad Pakistan, I'm working in Biocontrol
We have different background of farmers here in Indonesia. So we have to choose the right words to give the explanation so that they can understand the information. The short/medium term assistance is a benefit to know the difficulties of the farmer and to get the good way to overcome their difficulties.
if we are using a large amount of pesticide in the agriculture field from 5-6 years continuously, of course, it will harm the environment, soil everything then can we certainly shift towards organic farming or IPM technology?
I believe paying visits to farmers in the community whenever possible or staying connected with them through virtual means of communication to help farmers with problems occurring in their farms helps in effective communication with them.
Farmer communication is a big role of Management of Crop
Regular monitoring and farm visits helps to better communicate with farmers. I believe method demonstration and engaging audio visual tools can certainly help farmers to adopt pest management approaches like IPM and FAW control.
Thank you for allowing me to attend Effective Farmer Communication for Integrated Pest Management.
It is a comprehensive communication that has shifted my perspective and made me more optimistic about the management of integrated pest management.
To create that relationship with Growers, IPM information must be communicated over time. In most cases, we are not in continual contact with growers in the South Pacific. As a result, going out into the field with new knowledge for growers is always a struggle. It is critical to have a group that works on the ground to implement the IPM method on a regular basis. They can teach producers about environmental issues while also demonstrating how each approach might help a real-world production system.
Hello everyone, it was fruitful and insightful to every concerned person.
In Papua New Guinea, it is effective when you meet farmer in the field and show them what is been discussed and also listen to them as to how they deal with it.

A good example of farmer communication efforts I think can be working together with the farmers for example seting trials with farmers of which the farmer will be guided on how to look after the crop and help then on how to collect data that way the farmer will be able to understand since he/she will have hands on experiment
In Malawi, it works best when you first share the IPM information to farmers and the have hands on experiment with them that way they understand better and it
In India, the conversation with the farmers about FAW control. They are not aware about bio pesticides and bio control agents. They fully using pesticides for the management of FAW.
In Pakistan, farmers tend to listen to people they find alike them. In my experience, farmers are dedicated to their land and crop. if you first discussed issue in detail and then after getting all their attention you can talk about their solution. Every human being feel good to play an important part to a broad picture other than his daily work. I usually when interact with farmer community, first discuss a broader picture than we can tell them about their roles.
One of the key for a successful communication with the farmers is to give them a commendable approach on how they invest time and hard work on farming to provide food for all us. Appreciation is an opening to a great conversation and for building a great relationship with them. Also, conducting applied research on their own fields with partnership with them build strong bonds and able us to share in a two-way communication what are indigenous management to enhance scientific facts and results. Here in the Philippines, extension work is essential for a technology to be adopt by in the grassroot levels.
