Does anyone have good examples of farmer communication efforts in the field? What works best with farmers in your country and/or community? What are the different ways we can communicate with farmers about IPM and FAW control (and on other plant pests and diseases)?

Reaching at the farmer door step is the key for acceptance of IPM or any other technique/technology. In my study regarding farmer perception of insect pollinators and willingness to conserve in cucurbits, it was found that when I practically demonstrated the importance of insect pollinators to individual farmers in cucurbits, most of these agreed to conserve insect pollinators at their farms by using various conservation practices.

In south africa, Gauteng in particular, best method use for communication is through, group study, sms, email and telephone, in order to adress any related issues regarding farming related issues. Recently due to pandemic, virtual meeting, works, training, Facebook, twitter are more efficiently
Thanks for sharing. I think Facebook is used a lot in the region to communicate with farmers. I saw some great examples of this in Indonesia and the Philippines also.
I agree. Farmers should be appreciated more for their hard work. Of course paying them more would be nice but are there other ways we could show our appreciation, particularly for those farmers who really implement best practice approaches?
Any trial on Ecological Engineering toward FAW control?
Very Good workshop and I got a lot of knowledge in a short time. In Myanmar, the best thing to communicate with the farmer are from Facebook. We share the research finding through training, web pages and direct calls. Sometimes, farmer have sent their difficulty with picture and we gave the right solution. This technique is the best way in current situation.
Wishing you all the best!!!
Filipino farmers (and all farmers) are hardworking people and they all deserved to be appreciated. Working with them in the research field is a great privilege. Teaching them some principles and concepts in agriculture, especially, in the aspect of IPM is fun, and learning skills and values from them makes it more fun. By developing camaraderie with them, communicating basic techniques on FAW management becomes easier.
In Nepal, farmers are reluctant for adopting biocontrol method for FAW because of lack of better communication with farmers as well as not establishing demonstration plots to let them believe by seeing the results. This session definitely provides positive impact for better understanding with farmers and implementation of IPM approach for sustainability in agriculture .
One of the key for a successful communication with the farmers is to give them a commendable approach on how they invest time and hard work on farming to provide food for all us. Appreciation is an opening to a great conversation and for building a great relationship with them. Also, conducting applied research on their own fields with partnership with them build strong bonds and able us to share in a two-way communication what are indigenous management to enhance scientific facts and results. Here in the Philippines, extension work is essential for a technology to be adopt by in the grassroot levels.
In Pakistan, farmers tend to listen to people they find alike them. In my experience, farmers are dedicated to their land and crop. if you first discussed issue in detail and then after getting all their attention you can talk about their solution. Every human being feel good to play an important part to a broad picture other than his daily work. I usually when interact with farmer community, first discuss a broader picture than we can tell them about their roles.
In India, the conversation with the farmers about FAW control. They are not aware about bio pesticides and bio control agents. They fully using pesticides for the management of FAW.
In Malawi, it works best when you first share the IPM information to farmers and the have hands on experiment with them that way they understand better and it
A good example of farmer communication efforts I think can be working together with the farmers for example seting trials with farmers of which the farmer will be guided on how to look after the crop and help then on how to collect data that way the farmer will be able to understand since he/she will have hands on experiment
In Papua New Guinea, it is effective when you meet farmer in the field and show them what is been discussed and also listen to them as to how they deal with it.

Hello everyone, it was fruitful and insightful to every concerned person.
Thank you for allowing me to attend Effective Farmer Communication for Integrated Pest Management.
It is a comprehensive communication that has shifted my perspective and made me more optimistic about the management of integrated pest management.
To create that relationship with Growers, IPM information must be communicated over time. In most cases, we are not in continual contact with growers in the South Pacific. As a result, going out into the field with new knowledge for growers is always a struggle. It is critical to have a group that works on the ground to implement the IPM method on a regular basis. They can teach producers about environmental issues while also demonstrating how each approach might help a real-world production system.
Regular monitoring and farm visits helps to better communicate with farmers. I believe method demonstration and engaging audio visual tools can certainly help farmers to adopt pest management approaches like IPM and FAW control.
Farmer communication is a big role of Management of Crop
I believe paying visits to farmers in the community whenever possible or staying connected with them through virtual means of communication to help farmers with problems occurring in their farms helps in effective communication with them.
